Once completed, you will either need to submit them by using the contact form, or delivering it personally to the Sheriff's Office at 2025 A Avenue, Kearney, NE 68847. After completing the application, you will be notified that your application has been received and is being processed.

  • Upon completion of the initial application and personal history statement our team will conduct a background investigation on the information you provided. Once this investigation is completed, you will be notified by phone of the next step.

  • After you have been notified of your approval to move on from the background investigation, you will be given a date and time for in person testing. This day will consist of two written exams, one of the written exams being the TABE test. A physical assessment will also occur on this day. Our department uses the PHYSICAL READINESS ENTRANCE TEST (PRET) for this assessment. Listed below is more information on this test along with the required standards.

  • Once we notify you that you have completed your testing successfully, you will be given information on an interview with the Professional Oral Board and an interview with the Merit Board of Buffalo County.

  • After moving on from the interviews, our agency will reach out with a conditional offer. This offer is an offer of employment contingent on completion of several routine tests to include polygraph, psych and drug test, and for new law enforcement personnel, a medical examination.
