Buffalo County offers an internship program in partnership with Central Community College (CCC) and the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), providing students with hands-on experience in public service. Many of our current employees began their careers as interns, reflecting the program's effectiveness in preparing participants for full-time roles. We aim to give interns exposure to all divisions within our department, including jail operations, road patrol and our 911 communications center. We accept up to 2 interns per semester. The duration of the internship aligns with the requirements of the student's university or college. To apply, interested candidates should first contact us by stopping by the Law Enforcement Center, or by reaching out to us HERE. Our agency will then reach out to set up an interview. After the successful completion of a background check, the application will then be forwarded to the Sheriff for final approval.
