The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and the Kearney Police Department are proud to offer a collaborative internship program designed to prepare the next generation of law enforcement leaders. This unique partnership combines the strengths of two respected agencies, giving college students and aspiring deputies real-world experience in both county and city law enforcement settings.
As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to core divisions and daily operations across both agencies — including patrol operations, jail services, 911 communications, and community policing initiatives. Working side-by-side with seasoned deputies and officers, this program bridges classroom learning with field experience and helps you build the professional skills employers value most. This program provides insight into the career path toward becoming a sworn Deputy Sheriff or Police Officer.
The program runs in coordination with academic schedules and offers opportunities throughout the year, with structured application periods for spring, summer, and fall terms through our agency.
